The fear of nuclear power is mainly driven by the fear of its long lasting danger to human health. It is interesting to note that after the millions of years required for the nuclear waste to become stable it will end up as arguebly more dangerous lead. Lead is the last stable element in the perodic table as such it is the element that most larger nuclei including, unranium and plutonium, decay down into it. Lead however like most heavy metal is posionus to humans. There are many other posionous elements, of the others many are so reactive as to be explosive. Only relatively few elements are truely safe perhaps 20 or so. Most of these are very simple. Despite this, science seem to be obsessed with complex, large atoms it is invitably the simple atoms which are not only the safest but the most useful. An oxygen nuclei only consist of 16 subatomic particles and carbon 12.
bigger atoms are not necesserily better
