Entry:

When looking into paediatrics and in particular any ethical guidelines that are available for those working with children who are mostly unable to make decisions for themselves, I discovered that there is a Clinical Ethics Committee (CEC) at Great Ormond Street Hopsital, which is where Professor Moncrieff (the paediatrician in this case), worked. The Chair of this committee is Dr. Vic Larcher, who is based at The Barts and The London. His biog reads:

Consultant Paediatrician and Associate Director of Children's Services at the Royal London Hospital with especial interest in child protection. Honorary Senior Lecturer and Fellow in the Department of Human Science and Ethics at Queen Mary Westfield College London. Developed an interest in Medical Ethics and Law and co-founded the Clinical Ethics Committee at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and is a member of the CECs at the Royal London and GOSH. Chair of the GOSH Research Ethics Committee. Member of the Ethics Advisory Committee of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and part of the team which produced the original "Withholding/withdrawing life saving treatment in children" document in 1997 and its revision in 2004. Published on various aspects of Ethics of paediatric practice e.g. palliative care. Specific interests include the practical provision and assessment of Clinical Ethics Support Services and involvement of children in decision making.

GMC Good Medical Practice
A new revised issue of Good Medical Practice was issued by General Medical Council in October 2006 of its core guidance for doctors, Good Medical Practice (GMP). New areas of guidance include working in partnership with patients, the care and treatment of children and equality and diversity. The Guidance can be obtained from the GMC website: http://www.gmc-uk.org/guidance/good_medical_practice.asp

The guidance is addressed to doctors, but it is also intended to let the public know what they can expect from doctors.
