A male aged four years and eight months of Non-European extraction, who was originally admitted two years and three months previously, as a case of mental retardation. He was discharged but was readmitted three months later because his blood lead had risen 79ug/100ml. The child exhibited pica from an early age.
The exhibit is a toy motor car, manufactured in the U.S.A. , which was confiscated from the child’s home.
The toy is made of zinc with no lead. The white paint contains no lead but the red paint contains 6% lead. The red paint is regarded as one of the incriminating substances which produced the poisoning.
